Though television tops the charts as the most desired advertising medium, Internet advertising is second and showed record revenues in 2010. The latest report from IAB (Interactive Advertising Bureau), states that Internet advertising revenues rose 15% over 2009 reaching an all-time high of $26 Billion.

“As the latest IAB Internet Advertising Revenue Report amply demonstrates, brand advertisers and marketers have adopted the power of digital media as a central element of their campaigns,” said Randall Rothenberg, President and CEO, IAB. “Consumers have shifted more of their time to digital media – watching television shows and movies online – and advertisers now accept this multifaceted medium as a key component for reaching their targets.”

The largest growth was by sponsorships; increasing a total of 88% during 2010 and 142% in the 4th quarter alone. Search grew by 12% and earned 46% of the revenue. Display-related advertising was also on the rise, totaling almost $10 billion (a 24% increase over 2009).
Rebounding from a shaky economy, digital media ad spending is making a mark in the advertising world. With new technology conceived what seems like daily, consumers are spending more time online than ever and the keen advertisers recognize the surge in the trend. It has been five consecutive quarters of growth in the industry signifying that online advertising has the potential to become a digital tsunami with a profitable end.
